Roman salute

The Roman salute IS the fascist salute. It came to be known as the Roman salute more because fascist mythologists like nationalistic poet Gabriele D’Annuzio wanted to draw parallels between the strength of Fascist Italy and the great Roman Empire.

The Roman salute was adopted soon after by the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, who came to power in 1922. Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party adopted it in 1926, calling it the German salute.
